What?
I said that music is a touchy subject...not that i gave a crap what you think. HAHA
Anyways Music is the topic.
There are a lot of different kinds of music. A LOT!! I mean a humble kid like me could never even begin to name them all.
But i guess thats why someone, we will talk about who in a later blog, created wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_music_genres
I will wait. Go look at that link.
Done?
Alrighty. Now you see what we are dealing with. And the main thesis of this post is that music is relative. Some people like hip hop, for some unknown reason. Some people are into rap. Again, i haven't the faintest idea why. Some people, bless their little brains, love country. They love hearing Bucky McHickington cry about how his goddamned wife ran away with some Yank and took his truck and his dog.
now as you can tell I'm not a fan of any of the above genres. As evident by the prementioned link there are waaaaaaaaay to many genres for me to cover so i will simply talk about my musical background
Back when i was about 1-2 my dad would always take me places with him because my mom needed to work or something. I dont really know. But the only music my dad listened to were Little Feat, War, Jimmy Buffet, and Bob Marley. Yeah, my dad is awesome.
So by the time i was 4 i could recite the lines to all of the songs on the few tapes my dad had of these artists. And because this is all i was familiar with this is the kind of musical taste i developed. I became a fan of chilled out, laid back, sea shanties about Jamaica and of burger-filled paradises. I loved songs about summer and low riders (I had no idea what a low rider was until very recently) and why he was a little bit higher. Which made no sense to me at the time...
Needless to say i wasnt a fan of the manufactured shit that is pumped straight from factories into the ears of my peers. I didnt get why the hell they would listen to that shit. But , alas, it was not until years later that i found refuge.
In the summer of my 6th to 7th grade i was in Ohio visiting family. This was to be the fateful trip that opened my eyes and ears to the wonderful world of Rock and Roll, british style. As we climbed out of the 100 degree, 90% humidity weather and cranked the a/c something else struck me besides the relaxing blast of cool air. there was this mysterious sound coming form the speakers. This sound was the opening harmonica strains from "Love me Do" by The Beatles.
I was never the same After that there was no turning back. I NEEDED to hear the Beatles. They were my life. I spent hours researching the and memorizing their lyrics. I knew all the words to all the songs on their best of album "1" and my personal favorite album "Revolver". This was the moment that changed my life. Not that their werent others but as for my maturing musically this was me hitting puberty with a fiery passion. But i wasnt done expanding yet.
In what i can only guess was 7th grade me and my dad went into a computer store that was soon to be closed. Obviously there were deals as high as 70% off so we HAD to take a look. As we walked in i was drawn to a mac in the back. the mac was hooked up this set of speaker that looked pretty decent so i decided to try them out. Well, in reality, my dad wanted to try them out and see how loud we could get them. Again, he is awesome.
So we searched through the iTunes of the mac and after filtering out the shit we were left with "Back in Black" by AC/DC. So we cranked it up. The whole store was rockin by the time we were done. At one point the manager came back to confront who he assumed were a bunch of rowdy teenagers only to find a 45 year old man and his Catholic-School-boy son. He was embarrassed but asked up to turn it down. We didnt.
After that my world was thrown wide open.
My friend at school, Kyle Flanigan, had AC/DC live at Donnington so i borrowed that and it blew my mind. The heavy, powerful riffs of Angus coupled with the swagger of Brian Johnson. This was no love ballad by John Lennon. This was the power and force of AC/DC. This expanded into Led Zeppelin, the who, Jimi Hendrix, and every other classic rock band out there.
To this day Led Zeppelin and the Beatles are my favorite bands hands down. I will never forget that day when i first heard the Beatles of when Led Zeppelin first hit my ears.
And that is my background. From southern rock, reggae, Jimmy Buffet, and funked out trippy-ass chill rock to The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. From the progressive keyboard strains of Yes to the flute solos of Jethro Tull. From the always-in-the-mood ZZ Top to the High energy of Van Halen. From my newest passion the Red Hot Chili Peppers to my oldest favorite by War. I am in love with music and see no end in the future. There is only more to find.
So as i said. I am goin to be talking about music alot in this blog. So i really hope that you arent too offended when i tear your shitty bands apart. Also if you wan to sample any of the bands i have mentioned just ask me and i can get you some. So i hope you liked my history. In the future music posts will be about what i am currently into and new stuff i think people will like.
Bye for now.
